At least you got your piece back. They gave me someone else's worn-to-death locket, broken, and tarnished.
It even had their child's picture in it. They said they gave my (barely worn, brand new) necklace to someone else and couldn't ask for it back. It was a gift from my children but they didn't care. It was so sad.
They said they would refund the monetary value but it wasn't about the money. In addition, I've had a ring tarnish, sunglasses tarnish, charm bracelets break, etc... We haven't purchased anything in years. I didn't know it was silver plating over the cheapest alloy.
But that explains it.
We usually buy gold or sterling silver with rhodium plating. All those pieces are fine decades later whereas the Brighton jewelry was a constant maintenance issue.
